Did you know… We are born with 5 million hair follicles of which only one million
hair shafts show on the head. 5 million hair follicles is our lot for life. Stimulating dominant hair follicles is useful and essential for maintaining a healthy mane of hair that shines, and for managing common hair and scalp conditions .
Before we consider the different types of hair conditions I'd like to tell you about Ellie, a woman in her early thirties who had been experiencing dry itchy scalp with a large quantity of dry scalp flakes which was causing her to feel embarrassed. As we understood more about her symptoms and life style choices it became clear that she had been under a lot of pressure which was causing a Vata Imbalance leading to restless mind, worry, constipation, difficulty falling asleep and and dry scalp.
What made the biggest difference to her was the daily use of Vata Hair Oil. She noticed within 10 days that she was sleeping better, her hair was more shinny and the dry scalp was markedly reduced. Vata Hair Oil is rich in Ayurvedic herbs, including Bhringaraj - "Lord of the Hair'.
- Vata Hair Oil is also very helpful for nourishing dry, dull hair during winter. It is the preferred choice for dry scalp and dandruff.
- If you have a tendency for early graying, thinning of hair, or balding which can become pronounced as the winter chill increases then Pitta Hair Oil for normal to sensitive hair and scalp is the better option for you. It is rich in cooling Ayurvedic herbs (including Sandalwood and Blue Water Lily that supports the health of the scalp and hair roots, helping to reduce greying and thinning of hair.
To keep your hair shiny and healthy and to reduce dry brittle hair and split ends make a point of nourishing the scalp and roots of your hair. For best results nourish your scalp and hair follicles from both inside and outside

- Do a pre-wash oil about 30 minutes prior washing your hair with Vata Hair Oil.
- Herbal Nasal Oil. Apply 1-2 drops to each nostril after the shower in the morning and about 5pm
- Ensure you sleep well: Be in bed by 9.45pm and aim for 7-8 hours sleep (undisturbed if you can) each night.
- Favour a Vata Pacifying Diet, Vata Tea and Vata Seasonal Spice Mixture.
These recommendations will also help restore hair quality after hair has been dyed.
When the normal flaking of the scalp becomes excessive causing thick layers of dead skin particles, it is called dandruff. When the sebaceous gland also becomes affected it produces severe dandruff, a red, itchy scalp and can cause patchy baldness.
