Give Your Skin a Boost with Simple Skin Care Tips
Date Posted:27 September 2011
When it comes to skin care tips, the first thing you need to know is less is more! Let your skin breathe as much as possible. So many beauty products and cosmetics contain chemicals that can dry out the skin, increase sensitivity and trigger allergic reactions. Think about how you would treat a baby's delicate skin; you wouldn't overload it with harsh products and toxic chemicals, so why do that to your own? Maharishi Ayurveda recommends cutting out synthetic products and going back to nature to achieve healthy, glowing skin.
These skin care recipes from Maharishi Ayurveda are an excellent way to start breathing new life into your skin!
Cleansing Scrub for Dry Skin
Mix together 2 teaspoons quick-cooking oats, 1/4 teaspoon almond powder, 1/4 teaspoon orange peel powder, 1/4 teaspoon lavender flower powder and 2 tablespoons yoghurt. When they are combined well, apply the mixture to your face with clean fingertips. Always use a gentle touch when applying anything to your face! Allow the scrub to set on your skin, then remove it by rubbing it gently. It should come off in flakes. A little warm water will help remove any sticky patches. Rinse your face then gently pat it dry with a soft towel. Apply a nourishing moisturiser - choose from one of these moisturising creams Revitalising Cream, Vata Skin Care or Pitta Skin Care.
This cleansing scrub is a great skin exfoliator, due to the instant oatmeal and almond powder. Oats also help protect against damage from the sun and provide the vital vitamins B and E. Orange peel has a softening effect. If you have an aggravated pitta, yoghurt will help to pacify it.
If you have sensitive skin, use whole raw milk instead of yoghurt, and rose petal instead of orange peel.
Exfoliating Scrub for Oily Skin:
Mix 1 teaspoon toasted wheat bran, 1/4 teaspoon almond powder, 1/2 teaspoon orange-peel powder and 1 teaspoon lemon juice. Apply it gently to the face in even, circular movements. Wheat bran is excellent at cleaning pores, while the vitamin C in lemon juice boosts scrubbing activity.
Moisturiser for Dry Skin
Combine 1/2 teaspoon cocoa butter or coconut oil, 1/2 teaspoon lemon or lime juice, 1 teaspoon olive oil and 3 drops lavender oil. Give your face a light application twice a day. This can be stored in the fridge for up to one week.
Moisturiser for Oily Skin
Combine 1 teaspoon lemon juice, 2 drops of lemon-peel essential oil, 1 teaspoon olive oil and 1/2 teaspoon cocoa butter. Moisturiser for Sensitive Skin Combine 1 teaspoon white sandalwood powder, 1 teaspoon marshmallow powder, 1/4 teaspoon rose petals, 1 teaspoon Organic Rose Water and 1 teaspoon barley powder.
