Sinuses bothering you?

Have you woken in the night recently with a stuffy nose, unable to breathe fully through one or both nostrils? This can also be accompanied with pressure behind the eyes and an intense headache centred round the eyebrows and cheeks and radiating into the jaw.
If yes, then your sinus passages are in need of help.
These symptoms are due to an imbalance in digestion causing mucous to accumulate in the sinuses. A stuffy nose or one blocked nostril is an early sign of imbalance. As your sinuses become filled the pressure can build leading to an intense headache around your eyes and cheeks. This can also be the start of a head cold.
What to do?
Prevention is definitely less painful in the first instance. The key to prevention is first to know what causes the excess mucous in the first place and to avoid it.
- Too much wetness (mucous, cough, fluid retention) when mixed with impurities from incomplete digestion (ama) becomes sinusitis, bronchitis, asthma, diabetes, high cholesterol etc.
To avoid too much wetness, drink small sips of warm water during your meal and leave 30-60 minutes after your meal before having a warm drink.
To avoid impurities (ama) from incomplete digestion be sure to eat your evening meal by 6-7pm and eat lightly. Leave heavier foods such as meat, cheese, sour cream, yoghurt, fried foods, or larger quantities for lunchtime when your digestive fire is strongest. Then you can more easily digest these foods without causing a build up of mucous to block your sinuses. It is important to support your digestive strength with herbals at this time and help reduce the pressure in your sinuses with a medicated oil inhalation (see below).
Irregular digestive strength can be caused by irregular eating patterns. Ask yourself: do I have a regular pattern of eating breakfast, lunch and dinner? Or do I get caught up in my experiences and find the time goes by and my eating patterns become irregular? Your digestive fire is much like a normal fire. When a fire is fed regularly it gives a sustained heat.
