Blood Sugar Ups and Downs
If you regularly experience the following symptoms and find they are relieved when you eat then you are likely to be experiencing blood sugar ups and downs. You can experience a cluster of these symptoms without being a diabetic. If you experience the first 5 symptoms intensely then it is time to visit your doctor to arrange a blood test to check how your blood sugars have been over the last 3 - 6 months.
If your symptoms are intermittent or less intense and you wonder whether they could be due to blood sugar ups and downs then read on as we have some very helpful tips for you!
- Blurred vision or changes in vision
- Dizziness, lightheadedness, or shakiness
- Fatigue and weakness
- Fast or pounding heartbeat
- Sweating more than usual
- Headache
- Nausea or hunger
- Anxiety, Irritability, or confusion
Blood sugar ups and downs are due to a loss of intelligence in the physiology. Basically the pancreas loses its proper functioning; this can be due to genetic predisposition, poor diet, lack of exercise and being overweight. Transcendental Meditation ( NZ | AUS ) or Maharishi Ayurveda herbal preparations can assist in re-enlivening the physiology’s innate intelligence.
Blood sugar ups and downs are predominantly a Kapha related disorder so a Kapha pacifying diet and lifestyle will assist in regulating blood sugar. Favour foods with predominantly bitter, astringent and pungent tastes. Leafy greens such as lettuce, bok choy, silverbeet and spinach are both bitter and astringent. Although less common in the western diet, bitter gourd and fenugreek are particularly balancing to Kapha’s sluggishness. Quinoa, barley and amaranth are the most suitable grains for Kapha. Pungent tastes include ginger, black pepper, cloves and turmeric. Favour warm, cooked, light meals and avoid excess dairy, meat and sweet food.
See the helpful herbals section below for herbal support that is very effective.
A Good Routine
Eating regular meals with a larger meal at lunch time and a lighter dinner will also help to balance Kapha and stabilise blood sugar levels. Drinking warm boiled water or Kapha Tea every 15 - 30 minutes helps to get rid of toxins that could inhibit the function of the pancreas and the liver.
Avoid sleeping in past 6am into Kapha time of day (6am - 10am) as the body’s channels can become blocked with ama and the mind and body can become sluggish.
Regular exercise is an important part of a Kapha balancing regime. Walking 5kms a day is useful for stimulating pancreatic functioning. If you are unfit then start by walking 10 minutes first thing in the morning when you wake, 10 minutes after lunch and 10 minutes after your evening meal. Increase the time by 5 minutes each week up to 20 minutes.
Helpful Herbals
Herbals include Gluco Balance, Digest Tone, Kapha Tea and Kapha Churna (spice mixture).
The combined synergy of these formulas helps to restore mind body balance. These synergistic formulas are powerful, effective and require fewer doses with maximum potency and are free from negative side-effects.
Gluco Balance helps strengthen sugar and fat metabolism and supports overall immunity. The principal herbs assist with carbohydrate metabolism and overall digestion along with helping to regulate and protect liver function and support normal functions that can be strained by poor sugar metabolism. Note: Gluco Balance is not recommended if you have a tendency for low blood sugar.
- Take 1-2 tablets twice daily with water before meals. Increase dose every 4th day until a good response is experienced, up to a maximum of 2 tablets 4 times daily
Digest Tone supports digestion, assimilation, healthy blood sugar balance, healthy cholesterol levels, improves circulation, helps to protect the cardiovascular system and aids balanced blood pressure balance. It is a high quality antioxidant that supports liver function and enhances immune strength.
- Take 1 tablet prior breakfast and lunch and 2 tablets prior your evening meal.
A stimulating blend of spices that perk up the body and mind. 100% herbal Kapha Tea is a caffeine-free alternative to coffee, great for early mornings or damp, cold days. Balancing spices includes Ginger, Pepper and Saffron.
- Take a cup first thing in the morning. Then put 1 teabag into a 1 to 1.5 L flask and sip regularly throughout the day. Take 1-2 sips or ¼ - ½ a cup if thirsty every 30 - 60 minutes.
A tasty, warming spice combination that aids digestion so you feel lighter after you eat. It is a great way to get immune-boosting, anti-inflammatory and anti-allergy turmeric into your daily diet.
Sprinkle this stimulating spice mixture on your sandwich, in your soup or use in your cooking at home for a livelier palate and quicker, lighter digestion after the meal.
Do you have a tendency for high cholesterol?
If you have a history of high cholesterol then you may also wish to take Cholesterol Protection.
Cholesterol Protection enhances digestion, strengthens liver function, bile production and supports building of plasma, blood, muscle and healthy fat tissue. It helps break down fatty foods so they can be converted into healthy fat tissue and supports the flushing of cholesterol from the elimination tact.
- Take one tablet twice daily with light meals for 15 days. Then increase up to 2 tablets twice daily. Monitor blood cholesterol levels after 30 days. For maximum results, take 1-2 tablets of Digest Tone at bedtime also.
In summary the key points are to maintain a healthy weight, use herbals to support optimal digestion and metabolism, exercise regularly and avoid fatty, sugary foods. Favour a Kapha Balancing Diet >.
